After 42 years, bulb grower Wim Steur will stop his business, partly due to the nitrogen policy. The Ursem grower is touched by tonight’s big action in Schermerhorn, “all agricultural entrepreneurs are there. It affects us all.”
With over 40 years of experience in the Beemster, he knows that he is not alone. “I have already spoken to many a farmer who has also stopped. Every time those new rules, it is no longer fun to do business.”
License Plate
The grower Steur himself cannot be present at the protests tomorrow, because it is his last high season. He has another tip for the farmers who do go: “take your license plate off the tractor. Otherwise they will all be flashed and they will all receive a ticket”.
