Building material prices skyrocket: “Look up local products”
The price increases are greatest for steel, wood, insulation materials and non-ferrous metals. Insulation company Eskimoo is particularly affected by the question: energy bills are skyrocketing, so many people want to insulate quickly to reduce consumption. There is a good chance, however, that that won’t work this winter, says Aaron Pauwelyn of Eskimoo: “The waiting times for insulation are increasing because so many orders are coming in. For this winter, I don’t think there is much to insulate quickly.”
So there is a greater need for insulation, but at the same time many people postpone a major purchase or investment. Valerie Debal of kitchen manufacturer Vareno feels the consequences, and gives a tip: “My advice would be to maybe look for a local product”, it sounds. “Everything that is imported, those transport costs will be passed on sooner or later.”
