Building in Kinkerstraat squatted, justice is waiting for owner declaration

A group of squatters entered a building on Kinkerstraat around 4 p.m. According to them, it is a former laundromat.

The squatters call themselves Mokum Kraakt. A police spokesperson says that there are thirty to forty squatters and that the atmosphere is good.

Officers spoke to the squatters. The squatters were not caught red-handed. The public prosecutor has determined that there will be no eviction for the time being, but that they will wait until the owner of the property makes a report. It is not yet known whether the owner will actually do this.

The Mobile Unit was asked to assemble at a police station in Nieuw-West around 4.30 pm, but that is because of a demonstration taking place tonight and not because of the squatting action.

The group of squatters previously squatted a building on the Marnixstraat, which they subsequently called ‘Hotel Mokum’. After a few days they were removed from the building by the riot police.
