The first beach houses are being rebuilt on the beach of Wijk aan Zee. And they can’t be placed fast enough, because the sun is shining. “Of course it is still cold in the evening so we don’t have to think about sleeping here yet, but this is inviting,” says a beach hut owner.

Setting up the houses is still a big job. “The door doesn’t close yet.” The house must be level for this. “Then the back is too high or too low at the back, that’s a year again struggle.” He crawls under the house one more time to adjust the position.
The neighbors are at that moment lugging a heavy staircase to their house. “We have a double staircase, so twice as heavy.” Still, that’s not the hardest part of building it up: “Do you want to know what’s the hardest? Get a case of beer from above.”
