If you want to drive an electric car later, you can prepare for it now. If the charging station is installed at the same time as your home is built, it can save a lot of money.
Electromobility is the future? Many people have very different opinions on this. But anyone who could imagine driving an electric car in the future should prepare the necessary infrastructure when building their house.
That’s how expensive a charging station is
According to the advice portal “aktion pro eigenheim”, retrofitting a charging station (wallbox) is significantly more expensive than if this was taken into account in advance when planning the construction of the house. The planning and preparation as well as the expansion of the meter cabinet would cost less than 1,000 euros. Significantly higher costs can be expected for later retrofitting. These are at least a factor of 4 higher. The costs for a wallbox are currently between 400 and 2,000 euros. According to the Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW), the charging stations would be funded with a subsidy of 900 euros per charging point. Commercial use is not permitted. In order to successfully plan a charging station in a new building, certain points must be taken into account, according to “aktion pro eigenheim”. On the one hand, when installing the wallbox, care should be taken to ensure practical placement. On the other hand, a separate supply line from the circuit distributor to the wallbox is important. A separate three-phase circuit, with a current carrying capacity of at least 32 A, must also be prepared for connecting the charging station. In addition, the meter space must be dimensioned correctly.
Charge with your own electricity
Another factor that should be taken into account when building a house is the installation of photovoltaic systems (PV systems). According to the “DasHaus” website, the charging station can be operated with self-produced energy and the storage can be exchanged bidirectionally and cover demand flexibly. According to the “North Rhine-Westphalia Consumer Center”, care should be taken not to build the PV system too small. As a guideline, you can use at least one kilowatt peak output per 1,000 kilowatt hours of annual electricity consumption for households Electric car target together. In addition, due to the charging situation of electric cars, the PV system must produce at least 1.4 kilowatts in addition to the electricity consumption in the household.
