Build yes, but not blindly!

In the Ilse-Kiez in Karlshorst, the Howoge housing association wants to develop green spaces. A comment from BZ editor Konstantin Marrach.

Berlin urgently needs new apartments. That is clear. But it must not be built blindly.

The authorities should weigh up the so-called compression in particular. Can a neighborhood really afford to lose even more of the already scarce parking spaces? Not to forget: if new apartment blocks are built in their place, ultimately more parking space will be needed for cars…

And green spaces in the city should not be innocently plastered over with apartments, as is currently being planned in Karlshorst. Meadows in front of the door are a feast for the eyes of residents, important for children to play and for dogs to run around.

It is more than surprising that the Greens’ traffic senator has not yet put her foot down on such cut-throat plans and that her authority is blocking a construction freeze instead.
