‘Build houses in Geesbrug as quickly as possible, for young and old’

More homes for young and old, an extra supermarket, a multifunctional center and maintenance of primary education. These are some concrete wishes that residents of Geesbrug have. On Thursday, students from Leeuwarden presented the results of a quality of life study for the village.

In recent months, students from Van Hall Larenstein University of Applied Sciences in Leeuwarden held interviews in the village and handed out surveys. In a crowded room of the De Tiphof village hall, they discussed their harvest with the public.

Geesbrug especially needs a significant housing construction boost, said Gert van der Plas, one of the researchers. Nearly 90 percent of the participants in the survey indicated that they were not satisfied with the current housing supply. According to the Geesbruggers, additional starter homes, social rental homes and senior housing are particularly needed. Three-quarters of residents also believe that residents of the village should be given priority in the allocation of new houses. These houses should be built somewhere on the edge of the village.
