The Buffalo Bills have become one of the best teams in the NFL in recent years. The architects of this success are head coach Sean McDermott and general manager Brandon Beane. The duo has now been rewarded accordingly for this achievement.
McDermott and Beane have extended their contracts to 2027. This was announced by the Bills on Friday. According to NFL expert Ian Rapoport, this step has been apparent internally for some time. A look at the duo’s record shows why.
When the two men signed on in Buffalo in 2017, the organization was a shadow of its former self. McDermott and Beane then breathed new life into the patient right away. The team made the playoffs in its first season. What is now almost taken for granted at Highmark Stadium was previously denied to the team for 17 years.
It then built on that success. Head coach McDermott has won 62 of his 97 NFL games with the Bills to date. In the playoffs, on the other hand, the coach mostly disappointed, as his 4:5 record proves.
Especially since McDermott is expected to lead such a talented team with stars like Josh Allen or Stefon Diggs to the Super Bowl triumph.
NFL owner “loves” his winning duo
After the premature contract extension of his executives, however, Bills owner Terry Pegula naturally did not want to criticize the two protagonists. In a statement, he first highlighted Sean McDermott’s particular enthusiasm for work.
“He comes to the Bills every day and doesn’t ask anyone – player or coach – more than he is willing to do himself,” said Pegula, who also revealed why he enjoys working with Brandon Beane so much.
“I know he likes winning but I also know he hates losing. He’s not afraid to say what he thinks and if he disagrees with something he says it, even to the Owner. Love it,” Pegula gushed.
