Bubble baths in Thermae Son a degree colder and sauna out earlier

Due to the high energy prices, it is now a degree colder bubbling at Thermae Son. Wim van Santvoort, director of the sauna complex, regrets that he had to make that choice.

“It’s very annoying,” says Wim. The water will be slightly colder in both the pools and the hot tubs at the wellness center. “We have just come out of the corona crisis and are now entering the energy crisis right away.” The saunas also go out an hour earlier in the evening. But sauna goers will not notice much of this. “Fortunately, the heat lingers for a long time.”

Not every sauna complex is affected by the high energy prices. Private sauna Romantica in Valkenswaard does not have to turn on the heating, says owner Johan van Tongeren. “We’ve thought about charging customers a little more, but it hasn’t been necessary.”

“I was able to secure my energy until December next year!” says Johan. So lowering the temperature will not happen, he says. “For now there is nothing wrong”, Johan says relaxed, “And next December We’ll see then.”

They also keep a cool head at the Spahuys in Oss. “We don’t heat with gas,” says owner Wendy Vogels. They use heat pumps to heat the baths and saunas. “We were already working on saving energy.”

Turning the thermostat is ‘not logical’, says Jos Keizer, chairman of the Association of Dutch Sauna and Wellness Companies. Although the companies are suffering from higher gas prices, a lower temperature is not the first thing on their minds. “Of course people come to us for a hot bath, not a cold shower.”
