Former NHL defenseman Bryan Marchment is dead, says Kevin Weekes on Twitter.

Marchment passed away at the age of 53 in Montreal. The cause of death is unknown. Agent of Marchment Rick Curran confirmed the sad news news agency for AP.

Marchment worked as a player scout for the San Jose Sharks and was in Montreal for the NHL’s booking event, which starts on the night between Thursday and Friday Finnish time. The Sharks released a statement and condolences on Twitter.

– Bryan’s life-long love for hockey was unparalleled. He was one of the most committed, physical players. Most importantly, he was a loving son, husband and father.

Marchment played 17 seasons in the NHL. A total of 926 regular season matches were accumulated, in which he scored 40+142=182 power points.

The big defender was known for his physical and tough game. In the 1992–1993 season, he took as many as 313 penalty minutes.

He played as Teemu Selänte’s teammate for the San Jose Sharks for a few seasons in the early 2000s. Marchment also played with, among others, Teppo Numminen in the Winnipeg Jets and Miikka Kiprusoff with Calgary Flames and Sharks.

In his playing career, in addition to the Sharks and Jets, Marchment represented the Chicago Blackhawks, Edmonton Oilers, Hartfrod Whalers, Tampa Bay Lightning, Colorado Avalanche, Toronto Maple Leafs and Calgary Flames.

Son of Bryan Marchment Mason Marchment played last season for the Flordia Panthers.
