Brussels Airport expects almost 5 million passengers during summer holidays | To travel

During the months of July and August, more than 4.7 million passengers will pass through Brussels Airport, the airport expects. The capacity at border controls for non-Schengen flights has been expanded.

With 4.7 million expected passengers, Zaventem airport is 15 percent above the 2022 level, but not yet at a record high again: 5.3 million travelers were counted in the 2019 summer holidays.

There will be a first peak on Friday, at the start of the holiday. Almost 80,000 passengers (both departing and arriving) are expected at Brussels Airport. There will be about 71,000 on Saturday, 77,000 on Sunday. The second weekend in July, when the summer holidays start in French-speaking schools, will also be busy, with an average of 77,000 passengers per day on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

During the summer holidays, 58 airlines will be active at Brussels Airport, representing a total of 180 destinations.

Border Patrol

Extra capacity is available at the border control for flights outside the Schengen zone, one of the places at the airport where waiting times can sometimes increase. Three extra e-gates (automatic gates for travelers with a European passport) have been added. “This increases capacity and throughput and there are now twelve e-gates in total, in addition to the border posts manned by the federal police,” says a press release from Brussels Airport.

The airport operator will deploy more staff to inform and assist passengers in the terminal. Travelers are advised, among other things, to be on time at the airport, to check in online in advance and to follow the rules for hand luggage.
