On Monday’s national day of action, the security personnel of G4S at Zaventem airport will be on strike. “There will be very limited security services,” says Brussels Airport spokeswoman Nathalie Pierard. It had been feared for days that these actions would lead to lengthy queues, which would entail waiting times of up to 8 hours. But on Sunday afternoon, another update came out on the expected number of security officers who will be on hand, which was even less than initially thought. According to Brussels Airport, it is insufficient to operate in safe conditions.
“That is why we have decided to cancel all departing flights,” says Pierard. “The safety of our passengers and employees could not be guaranteed. It is impossible to organize security with the few staff that will be available, we were told this afternoon. So passengers should definitely not come to Brussels Airport on Monday, but contact their airlines to rebook their flight.”
The arriving flights and cargo flights will be carried out without any problems, according to Brussels Airport.

action day
On Monday’s national action day, work will be laid down in all kinds of sectors. It had been clear for days that the disruption would be greatest at the airport. Brussels Airlines has therefore already decided to cancel more than half of its flights, and other airlines have also stepped back. Brussels Airport had already advised passengers to rebook their flights and not come to the airport on Monday, all in the hope of avoiding too long queues. The decision of Sunday evening to cancel all departing flights is therefore not entirely surprising.
