Brussels Airlines wants to expand, with more aircraft and more staff. Vacancies have already been published and various growth scenarios are on the table. That was learned from the airline.
Before the summer holidays, there was still social unrest at the Belgian subsidiary of the German Lufthansa. A multi-day strike over the workload affected many travelers. It also did not go well financially: in the first half of the year Brussels Airlines booked an operating loss of 89 million euros.
Social calm seems to have returned two months later. According to the management, work has been done well in working groups in recent weeks on the workload problem and “a new way of working together” has been found. The management now even sees opportunities in the market and wants to expand the fleet and the workforce, it was announced internally today.
“We are currently investigating various growth scenarios that we will develop further in the near future,” says spokeswoman Maaike Andries. More clarity should be provided in the coming months. Everything is done in close cooperation with Lufthansa, it sounds.
Because the coming winter will remain unpredictable, Brussels Airlines already wants to hire more staff. It has therefore been decided to extend the contracts of 200 temporary cabin crew members and to recruit additional cabin crew. The company is also looking for additional pilots and maintenance personnel. The company is not yet able to say how many jobs could be added.
According to the company, Brussels Airlines can think of growing again as a result of the efforts made in recent years to reduce costs. Society was made smaller. As a result of the restructuring, “a very strong and competitive cost position has been achieved”, it sounds.
