Meetings of car enthusiasts in Brunssum are immediately prohibited. The municipality has decided this after a series of incidents, including street races.

Images of such gatherings show, among other things, that people are racing on the Ganzepool while someone is lying on the roof of one of the cars. According to local broadcaster ZO-NWS, hard braking also damaged the asphalt of the road close to the Buitenring Parkstad. Mopeds and motorbikes were also torn.

The municipality of Brunssum has tried to make agreements with the organizers, in which it was stated, among other things, that there would be no racing. Now that it appears that that agreement was violated at the car meeting on 23 and 30 April, Brunssum shows the car meetings the door. “Initially we were satisfied that the meetings were notified in advance, but that is now over,” says a municipal spokesperson, “From now on, these meetings need a permit, and we will certainly not grant it in the near future. during the meetings we no longer accept.”

To prevent the meetings from taking place illegally, the municipality wants to close the site at the Ganzepool with fences. That is a task of the province of Limburg, which owns the site. “And of course we will act if such meetings are still held,” the spokesperson added.

Region
The car meetings settled in Brunssum at the beginning of April, after car enthusiasts had already gathered in the parking lot of the Parkstad Limburg Stadium or the furniture boulevard in Heerlen. The meetings attracted people from all over the region, as far as Germany. For the time being, Brunssum has not contacted neighboring municipalities to prevent illegal street races from moving to other places in the Parkstad region.
