Bruges is becoming less car-free, and explains plans through a striking campaign
The low-traffic area will expand from next month. In the Katelijnestraat between the Nieuwe Gentweg and the Gruuthuusestraat you are no longer allowed to drive in the afternoon without a permit, as is already the case in the Steenstraat. De Lijn’s bus schedule will also be adjusted with more offer on busy lines. More electric buses are also being used. A campaign with hammocks will be launched to inform residents and tourists.

Dirk De fauw, mayor of Bruges: “We have set up a campaign to make it clear to visitors and residents of the city where we wish to go. That is why a number of placards have been set up and very striking, red hammocks with the logo of the city of Bruges. By which we mean that there must also be a possibility to spend a very quiet time in the city. We have also ordered a number of new text cars (cart with LED screen with information on it, ed.) for the police They will urge tourists to use the extensive parking lot of Het Zand.”
