Bruges festival shut down after man empties fire extinguisher, some festival goers unwell

Just before the Belgian DJ Gaāl was to start his set, around 11 pm, an unknown man emptied a fire extinguisher onto the mixing console. A large cloud of powder immediately spread, which left some festival-goers intoxicated and briefly unwell. No one was seriously injured. The organization decided to stop the festival about one and a half hours before the planned end.

The man’s motives are not yet known. The organization of the festival has filed a complaint with the police, the investigation is ongoing.

Organization calls out

In the meantime, Nomade, the organizer, is calling on festival-goers to provide as much information as possible about the incident. “Any information related to the perpetrator of the incident is desperately needed to ensure the survival of this concept,” it sounds.

Nomade Open Air is a small-scale open-air dance festival in Bruges, along the Ghent-Oostende canal. In 2020, the event could not take place due to the pandemic, and last spring Covid did not allow to party carefree and without a mouth mask.
