Bruges chief of police hangs on the hook after 40 years

These are his last days with the Bruges police before Dirk Van Nuffel retires after a career of 40 years. He was born with a love for the profession, because Dirk’s father was once also chief of the municipal police in Bruges.

Bigger challenges in Bruges

Van Nuffel was also chief of police in Knokke-Heist for 19 years, but found greater challenges in Bruges, with a port, prison, tourists and football. The chief of police also cherishes fond memories of the many visits by prominent figures such as that of Xi Jinping, the Chinese president.

Yves Rotty will take over as Chief of Police on 1 July. Then Van Nuffel hangs his kepi on the hook.
