For Bruce Willis, a sudden illness means the end of his career. As his family has now announced, the actor suffers from aphasia. As a result, the 67-year-old is no longer able to pursue his profession.
His family released a statement on Instagram explaining how the Die Hard star is doing. “As a family we would like to share that our beloved Bruce has been experiencing some health issues and has recently been diagnosed with aphasia which is affecting his cognitive abilities. Because of this, and after careful consideration, Bruce is retiring from the career that has meant so much to him. This is a truly difficult time for our family and we are so grateful for your continued love, compassion and support. We’re coming through this as a strong family unit and wanted to include his fans because we know how much he means to you as much as you mean to him. As Bruce always says, “Have a blast,” and together we intend to do just that.”
The statement is signed “Emma, Demi, Rumer, Scout, Tallulah, Mabel, & Evelyn.”
Bruce Willis sick: what does aphasia mean?
Aphasia is a language disorder that, according to the information and self-help site Aphasiker.de caused by a stroke in 85 percent of cases. “Those affected are no longer able to speak well, understand language, read or write. This is often associated with difficulties finding words.” In addition, the ability to recognize connections in sentences and texts is made more difficult. However, memories and personal experiences are not lost.
In particular, the left hemisphere and the cerebral cortex are damaged. Attention and motor skills problems can also occur. According to his family, working and living as Bruce Willis was used to is no longer possible. It is not clear how severe the symptoms of the disease are in him. Until recently, Willis was still in front of the camera. Several films have been completed or are in post-production.
Bitter: Only recently the organizers of the Golden Raspberry had left out the introduction of a new category about the acting arts.
