Bruce Willis: “Golden Raspberry” is withdrawn

Hardly anyone is happy about this award. Since 1981, the “Golden Raspberry”, which originally went under the sign “Razzies”, has been awarded for particularly underground films or borderline acting skills.

What started out as a joke for a few Hollywood insiders has now become a feared anti-award, which is served up with a wicked grin in close proximity to the Oscars. As recently as mid-March, Bruce Willis was among the recipients of the current trophy for 2022, which at best fans of trash aesthetics can be proud of. But now the fatal raspberry cup has been withdrawn from him afterwards. And out of respect.

“Die Hard” review:

Award-makers John Wilson and Mo Murphy shared that the recently published diagnosis of aphasia, a physical disorder that also affects the language center, prompted them to do so after careful consideration. “When an actor’s or actress’ state of health becomes a rating factor, we deem it inappropriate to award a Golden Raspberry Award,” reads the official statement.

The raspberry team had already expressed their respect for the diagnosis for the 67-year-old in advance and wished him “all the best for the future”.

Because of the numerous action B movies that Willis has shot regularly over the past few years, he even had his own category for the smear award. Under the title “Worst Bruce Willis film performance of 2021”, the crass alien strip “Cosmic Sin” was awarded, in which he embodies a weirdo soldier named James Ford. In addition, the “laudation” said that he had eight bad roles in the last year, including in films like “American Siege” or “Deadlock”.

The US trade magazine “Variety” meanwhile lists all the Willis films that have already been shot and that can be seen on video-on-demand platforms or soon in cinemas after the end of his career. Already released are Fortress 2 and the action thriller Gasoline Alley alongside Devon Sawa and Luke Wilson, followed by A Day To Die.

Also in the pipeline is Corrective Measure, in which he battles his film antagonist Michael Rooker, and revenge drama Vendetta, which also stars ex-boxing champ Mike Tyson. Plus the military action spectacle “Die Like Lovers”.

The magazine speculates which of the numerous Willis productions (which also earned him the special “Razzies” category) will be the end-last. While there is already a date for “Wire Room”, the reunion in “Paradise City”, with “Pulp Fiction” partner John Travolta, could also be a Bruce farewell for screen fans.
