Bruce Springsteen sings a cappella with guests in an Irish pub – tour of Europe

On Thursday 4th May Bruce Springsteen stopped at an Irish pub with his E Street Band. Springsteen, Consequence writes, had a drink at The Burrow in Rathangan and sang an impromptu a cappella version of “My Hometown” with the guests. The place should have a special meaning for the boss: Springsteen’s ancestors come from Rathangan, in the west of County Kildare in Ireland.

Springsteen’s Visits to Ireland: “An Angel Personified”

The group’s tour has taken them across the United States and now Europe. This weekend they are guest at the RDS Arena in Dublin for three concerts. Around the concerts in Ireland, Springsteen also visited the Dublin home of the sick Pogues frontman Shane MacGowan, as we report here.

MacGowan’s wife, Victoria Mary Clarke, posted a photo of the two musicians from the visit, writing: “It was really very exciting and monumentally inspiring to spend time with @springsteen yesterday. He radiates a very, very beautiful energy, he is like an embodied angel! It’s great to see that someone can find work that excites them and that they can spend their whole life lifting people’s spirits through their work and while doing so, be so enthusiastic and energetic and full of gratitude and grace and appreciation for to stay his work and for everything and everyone in his life.”

Then she formulates the wish “to be able to be just a little bit like him”.

Several dates in Europe – four in Germany

The European tour kick-off took place before 120,000 fans at the Olympic Stadium in Barcelona. Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks and Barrack Obama were also in the stadium at the opening concert – Michelle Obama was on stage with Springsteen as background singer on the song “Glory Days”. The 73-year-old played three-hour shows with almost 30 songs.

In Europe, Springsteen and the E Street Band are playing sold-out stadium concerts through the end of July. Springsteen is coming to Germany on June 21 (Düsseldorf), July 15 (Hamburg), July 21 (Hockenheim-Ring) and to Munich on July 23. At the beginning of August it’s back to America and Canada for 31 gigs. The current tour is Springsteen and the band’s first since February 2017.
