After having to postpone the E Street Band’s world tour to 2024 in September due to his stomach ulcer, Bruce Springsteen was back on stage for the first time on November 6th. He supported John Mellencamp for a few songs at David Geffen Hall at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts for the Stand Up For Heroes benefit. The 74-year-old surprised everyone in top form in New York.
Surprise appearance with Duet
Although Springsteen attends the event every year, he had already canceled the current celebration. He was actually on tour before it was postponed due to his illness. He caused a surprise when John Mellencamp called him on stage: “I hope everyone is doing well. I didn’t want to make anyone sick. I’m going to introduce one of the best songwriters of our generation, and he’s my big brother who I’ve looked up to my whole life. Ladies and gentlemen, Bruce Springsteen.”
Arm in arm, the two sang a duet of “Wasted Days.” Springsteen also performed several of his hits solo, including “Power of Prayer,” “Working on the Highway” and “Dancing in the Dark.” Mellencamp, on the other hand, performed his songs “Jack and Diane” and “Small Town”.
The event raised over 13 million euros for the Bob Woodruff Foundation, which promotes a safe and to ensure successful futures for veterans and their families. In addition to Springsteen and Mellencamp, Jimmy Carr, Ronny Chieng, Tracy Morgan, Shane Gillis and Jon Stewart also appeared on stage. Additionally, there were recorded comments from First Lady Jill Biden and Prince Harry.
