With “Don’t Play That Song” Bruce Springsteen has released the third track to his forthcoming cover album “Only The Strong Survive”. We show the music video for “Don’t Play That Song” here.
His 21st studio record will be released on November 11th. The musician then devotes himself to newly recorded soul and R&B classics. So far, Springsteen has already shared the releases “Do I Love You (Indeed I Do)” (Frank Wilson) and “Nightshift” (The Commodores) in September and October. Springsteen co-produced with Ron Aniello.
The Story Behind “Don’t Play That Song”
The soul classic was originally composed by Ahmet Ertegun and Betty Nelson. The play was recorded and published for the first time by Ben E. King, Nelson’s husband, in 1962. Since then, there have been repeated interpretations – for example by Aretha Franklin in 1970.
Musicians such as Keith Locke and The Quests, Adriano Celentano and Mariah Carey have also performed the song. Sam Moore and Bekka Bramlett also recorded a duet on it in 2006.
