Clothing racks full of costumes and tables with props went on sale today at the Shakespeare Theater in Diever. The attic was bulging and needed to be cleaned up.
“I think we have thousands of garments,” says Peter Sloot, chairman of the Shakespeare Theater Diever. “If you now look at what is for sale here, and you look above where it came from, it is as if nothing is missing yet.”
Velvet coats with big collars, silk slippers, a table full of hats. Visitors are amazed. “This is amazing!”, a lady exclaims as she takes a red jacket with gold embroidery from the rack.
One can guess in which productions the costumes were used. Some clothing items are years old. “The theater started in 1946,” says Sloot. “Two years ago we looked to see if we could find anything from the beginning. And there are still things from the 1950s.”
