The brother of world champion Toni Kroos speaks openly about a collision on a federal highway – in which something worse almost happened.
Felix Kroos got into a traffic accident on the way back from a second division game. The former professional, who played for Werder Bremen and Union Berlin, among others, was on duty as a TV expert at the game Magdeburg against Nuremberg (3-0) on Saturday. Shortly after leaving for Berlin there was a collision.
“It was very bitter,” said Kroos in the joint podcast “Einfach mal Luppen” with his brother Toni. There was a traffic jam on the main road: “It was stop-and-go. The person in front of me braked abruptly again and then it was difficult to avoid it. I tried it and then went into the side and also past the side. Then I was standing a little at an angle on the embankment. Thank God I didn’t tip over.”
However, no one was injured. “No one was harmed,” explained Kroos. “But it happened that the car was no longer drivable. Then the torture began. It was shortly before midnight and you were standing on the main road and waiting for the police.”
After the accident was recorded and towed, the onward journey had to be organized. “It was a nice taxi ride to Berlin at 2:30 a.m. Wonderful… The taxi cost about 430 euros. I was home at around 4:30 a.m.”
Kroos had praise for the officers’ handling of the situation: “They were all relatively relaxed.” It was undisputed that he caused the accident: “If you don’t keep your distance or can’t react anymore, it’s your fault. I also said straight away that it was my fault.” He was surprised by a fine he had to pay: “I didn’t even know there was a fine of 35 euros. That’s peanuts compared to the property damage.”
Brother Toni Kroos commented on the incident with humor: “Now you can finally feel what that last second feels like before the impact, when you really notice that now you can’t brake anymore and now it’s happening.” He himself has already experienced two rear-end collisions.
