Brother killed by carnivalist testifies: “Frédéric saved the life of a boy” | Inland

One of the six carnivalists who were killed last Sunday in Strépy-Bracquegnies has saved the life of a child before his death. The parents of 12-year-old Timéo have informed the relatives of Frédéric D’andrea.

The grief for the death of Frédéric is still immeasurably deep with his family and friends, but the story of Timéo’s parents makes the loss a bit more bearable, the brother of the dead carnivalist told RTL Info. “He didn’t die in vain,” Nicolas D’andrea told the French-language news site.

“What we heard is that my brother threw himself in front of that car to prevent that little boy from being scooped up,” Nicolas said.

“Gift for life”

The hero story does not surprise the brother. “This is clearly what my brother was like. In this I fully recognize his proof of courage and way of reacting. He definitely wouldn’t have wanted the boy to be hit by a car without reacting himself.”

Nicolas is first and foremost devastated by the drama that took place in La Louvrière on Sunday morning, but he is also very proud of the person his brother was. “He has given a little boy an incredible opportunity, a gift for life.” The man also praises the child’s testimony, because Timéo is completely upset by what he experienced on Sunday.

For Nicolas and his family now important to be there for the boy.

Bury the first victims

The funeral of Frédéric D’andrea will take place tomorrow. Three other victims of the carnival drama are already buried today in Haine-Saint-Pierre, a borough of La Louvière. It concerns Mario Cascarano, his wife Michelina Imperiale and her brother Salvatore Imperiale. They also lost their lives on Sunday when a car drove into a group of carnival celebrants at high speed.
