A remarkable theft took place in Venhuizen last weekend. A bronze statue – complete with plinth and base plate – was taken from a backyard at De Witte Valk. A neighbor says she sees the theft ‘half happening’. Police are currently investigating and looking for witnesses.
According to a neighbor, the theft took place around 3 a.m. According to her, two men entered a garden in the night from Saturday to Sunday. “I’ve seen the perpetrators, but I don’t know them,” she says today. The suspects then walk towards the bronze statue and drag it with the two of them to the front of the house.
Head wound
There the sculpture – complete with base plate and plinth – is loaded into the trunk of a black station wagon. When the two suspects want to drive away with an open tailgate, the statue falls out of the station wagon, after which the plinth partially breaks off. The remainder was reloaded with the base plate and the statue, after which the suspects drove off in the direction of De Stad Riga in Venhuizen.
In a Facebook message that the neighbor has placed, she says that the driver wants to close the tailgate, but that it falls on the co-driver’s head. So the man may have a wound on his head or forehead.
According to the neighbor, it concerns two men with blond hair, one of which may even be reddish. The longer of the two is more solidly built, according to the neighbor. They arrive in a black station wagon, the brand and type of which are still unknown.
Police are investigating theft
The police inform WEEFF/NH Nieuws that they have received several reports about the theft, which would have taken place somewhere between Saturday 9 p.m. and Sunday 2:30 p.m. Although they cannot determine the profile of the suspects, tips are used for the investigation. The vehicle is also included in this.
“We call on witnesses who have seen something to report. Hopefully this will lead to the perpetrators,” said a spokesman. “This can be done via the general telephone number of the police.”
