They are Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe and Anousheh Ashouri. The release was announced on Wednesday by British Prime Minister Boris Johnson. Officially because they have served their sentences, but in fact a result of Iranian-British negotiations on the repayment by London of debts contracted in Iran worth 475 million euros.
Zaghari-Ratcliffe was arrested at Tehran airport in 2016 and sentenced to 10 years in prison for attempting to overthrow the Iranian government, including by encouraging online resistance to the government. Ashouri was arrested in 2017 and sentenced to ten years in prison for spying for Israel and illegal financial practices.
