Britons get extra day off due to coronation Charles | show

“The coronation of a new monarch is a unique moment for our country,” Sunak said in a statement. “In recognition of this historic event, I am delighted to announce an additional day off for the entire UK next year.”

Charles’ mother Elizabeth died on September 8 at the age of 96. Since then, Charles has been officially king, but the coronation in Westminster Abbey is still a bit off. Elizabeth was crowned nearly seventy years ago, on June 2, 1953. She had officially been the monarch for over a year by the death of her father George VI in February 1952.

Britons also got an official day off on the occasion of Elizabeth’s coronation. According to the British Prime Minister’s office, it has now been decided to make this a tradition so that families and communities can celebrate the historic event together.
