British tradition meets French charm

The traditional British brand Barbour and the French luxury fashion house Chloé are launching a joint collection.

Under the creative direction of Chloé creative director Gabriella Hearst, the collaborative collection was inspired by the outerwear brand’s archive, Barbour announced last Tuesday. The collaboration consists of a jacket, coat and cape, as well as accessories produced by the French brand. This includes two bags, two pairs of boots, a bucket hat and a silk scarf made from Barbour materials. The outerwear was also made from the waxed cotton fabric typical of British brands.

Both the coat and the jacket are adorned with ruffled details on the shoulders, while the oversized cape has clean lines. Barbour jackets have a personal meaning for Gabriela Hearst, according to the statement. Both her father and stepfather are said to have worn the jackets while working on the family ranch in Uruguay.

While the collaboration with Chloé is the first with a women’s luxury fashion house, it’s by no means the first time Barbour has reimagined its classic style as part of a collaboration. This fall, the traditional house launched a limited collection with Italian fashion house Moncler, as well as a collaboration with Swedish brand Ganni. Barbour has also recently worked with Alexa Chung, House of Hackney, and Wander and Noah.

The collection is priced between 370 and 2,800 euros and is available in the Barbour online shop and on Matchesfashion.
