The tragic accident happened just after 9 a.m. Friday. The boy was staying with his parents with relatives near the town of Ballinagare, in the Irish county of Roscommon. The child had crawled out of bed and left the house while his parents were still asleep. Not far from there, he was hit by an all-terrain vehicle.
After the driver, a neighbor, realized what had happened, he rang the doorbell of the victim’s family. “His parents were still in bed at the time and told him that their son was still asleep. Unfortunately, they soon learned that this was not the case and that the child had left the house,” a source told the newspaper. Irish Mirror.
The emergency services were quickly on the spot after the accident, but the toddler was no longer able to help. The driver stated that he would not have seen the child. The police are investigating the incident and do not assume malicious intent. Local politicians say they are shocked by the accident.
