The incident happened during a visit by the royals to the city of York, in the north of England. None of the four eggs launched hit the royal couple. The twenty-something, who had also shouted “this country is built on the blood of slaves”, was booed by the audience who chanted “God save the King” among other things.
The student was immediately arrested and has now been released on bail. He must adhere to a number of conditions: for example, he may not come closer than 500 meters to King Charles and not carry eggs in public. With regard to the latter condition, the twenty-something, in his own words, did receive an exception when shopping.
