British period of national mourning has come to an end

On Tuesday, Britain will return to the order of the day. Monday at the end of the day, at 1 a.m. Dutch time, the period of national mourning that applied after the death of Queen Elizabeth on Thursday 8 September will come to an end.

The flags on government buildings were flown at half-mast, there were commemorations and people could sign condolences. Thousands of people have flocked to Buckingham Palace in recent times to pay their respects, and billboards across the country have been replaced with tributes to her life.

Monday was the farewell to the Queen with a funeral service at Westminster Abbey in London. Elizabeth was interred in the King George VI Memorial Chapel in Windsor on Monday evening with her husband Philip after a private service.

The members of the royal family and the staff and representatives of the royal family remain in mourning until September 26, seven days after the funeral. Until September 27, 8 a.m. (local time), the flag on the royal buildings will remain at half-mast.
