British Motor Sport Federation bans Russians from Masepin

Silverstone (AP) – Mick Schumacher’s Russian Formula 1 colleague Nikita Masepin is threatened with the next problem. The British Motor Sport Federation has announced that teams, drivers and officials with Russian or Belarusian racing licenses are not allowed to compete in the UK.

This would also mean the British Grand Prix on July 3rd at Silverstone. Following Russia’s attack on Ukraine, Motorsport UK made the decision in consultation with the UK government and national sporting bodies.

According to the so-called International Sporting Code, the British Motorsport Association can only enforce such a decision as an exclusion for national competitions, but not for international competitions such as Formula 1.

“It is our duty to use every influence and leverage to stop this totally unjustified invasion of Ukraine,” said FA President David Richards.

The world motorsport association Fia had not excluded Masepin from the races the day before. The 22-year-old from Moscow should start “until further notice” as a neutral athlete and under the “FIA flag”. He must also expressly commit himself in writing to peace and political neutrality.

Haas team boss Günther Steiner left open the future of Masepin as a driver and the Russian mining company Uralkali as a sponsor last week.
