Football prospect Daniel Cain sits in a wheelchair these days.

A former football pledge of Daniel Cain23, life has been turned upside down in a harsh way, British magazine Independent write.

Cain, who played in the junior academy of the big club Arsenal when he was younger, is now sitting in a wheelchair as a quadriplegic.

The reason for this is quite tragic. Cain was spending an evening at a bar in the summer of 2020 when something was spilled into his drink. He went into cardiac arrest, during which his brain and spinal cord were deprived of oxygen.

The friends at the bar noticed that Cain was a strange color. He didn’t wake up, so friends called an ambulance and tried CPR. When the ambulance arrived, paramedics got Cain’s heart beating, but it took them 24 minutes.

The damage caused by the lack of oxygen had already happened.

Woke up from coma

The football teenager lay in a coma for 25 days. Doctors told his parents that even if the boy woke up, he would be in a vegetative state, that is, unaware of the world around him and unable to express himself.

When Cain awoke, however, his consciousness miraculously began to improve.

– He couldn’t move or do anything. He was like a newborn, but the nurses said he was following them with his eyes, so there was clearly something going on in his head, the mother told the Independent.

Cain’s short-term memory was gone, but he still remembers his childhood well.

After two and a half years of treatment, Cain was finally able to go home. However, he is in a wheelchair and needs an assistant around the clock.

The young man is barely able to move on his own, but his body is still constantly being rehabilitated. He still dreams of regaining his athletic ability in some form.

However, rehabilitation is expensive, as it costs 1,140–2,280 euros per month.
