British boy (12) suspected of murdering 60-year-old woman: “He ran over her with her own car” | Abroad

A 12-year-old boy has appeared in court in the English city of Sheffield on suspicion of murdering a 60-year-old woman. The child is said to have run over the victim with her own car last week.

The facts took place last Wednesday at the home of the victim, 60-year-old Marcia Grant. The 12-year-old boy hit her with her own car. The child also had a knife in his pocket. The woman died on the spot. It’s not clear exactly how the boy got into Grant’s car. The police arrested the 12-year-old suspect on suspicion of murder and weapons possession.

Grant, who was a social worker, is survived by a husband and two children, writes the British newspaper The Guardian. Her family describes her in a statement as a “warm and loving woman”.

The suspect was questioned for the first time last weekend. According to British media, the boy was smiling and fidgeting with his hands all the time. During today’s interrogation, mainly practical matters were discussed. The child will have to appear in court again on May 5 for further questioning. Until then, he will remain in juvenile detention. His trial will start in August or October.

The teen would be one of the youngest children to stand trial for murder in the country in the past 30 years.

Although everyone under the age of 18 normally appears before the juvenile court, the regular court hears the case because of the seriousness of the crime. In England, the age of criminal responsibility is 10 years.
