British authorities want no-fly zone over Windsor Castle to protect Queen Elizabeth | Royalty

RoyaltyThe British authorities want to impose a no-fly zone over Windsor Castle, one of the residences of Queen Elizabeth (95). According to the BBC, the security of the residence is being re-examined. That happens after a nineteen-year-old man with a crossbow was arrested at the castle at the end of last year.

The broadcaster reports that the police have submitted an application to establish a ‘no-fly zone’ above the castle in Windsor, England. That’s not obvious, because the residence is located less than ten kilometers from the busy Heathrow Airport. The flight ban has yet to be approved. If that happens, it will no longer be allowed to fly below 760 meters altitude.

Concerns over the security of the royal residence arose after the arrest of an armed teenager. He tried to break in at the end of December, but was arrested almost immediately. The young man is said to have put a video online, according to British media. In it, he announced that he wanted to kill the queen in revenge for the massacre in the Indian city of Amritsar in 1919. Then the British Indian army opened fire on unarmed civilians, resulting in hundreds of deaths.

Drone approach

Tabloid The Sun reported last week about the plans to impose a no-fly zone. The measure should come into effect at the end of January. The British authorities can then deploy fighter jets if an aircraft ignores the ban and does not respond to warnings. Agents guarding the castle would also be given more powers to deal with illegal drones.

The 95-year-old Queen Elizabeth has a living space in the castle. She spent a lot of time there during the corona crisis.
