Britain’s loneliest sheep stranded at the foot of steep cliffs for two years | Abroad

A sheep spotted at the foot of steep Scottish cliffs has been dubbed the “loneliest sheep in Britain” by the British press. The poor animal has been stuck in the cove for two years.

Scottish Jill Turner noticed the sheep for the first time in 2021 while kayaking between Baltinore and Nigg off the Scottish coast. It was then thought that the sheep itself might find its way to the fields above the cliffs.

But on a recent trip she saw the animal again. This time the sheep had a long, thick coat because it has not been sheared for two years. The unfortunate animal was still stuck in the same place. According to Turner, the sheep bleated at her and her fellow kayakers. British newspapers have since picked up the story.

Turner said she has tried to contact a number of organizations to get the animal safely back on top of the cliffs. She hopes it is still possible to get the sheep to safety.

It is not known who owns the animal, but a farmer has looked into the possibility of removing the animal from the beach. However, a rescue operation would require specialized equipment due to the challenging terrain.

Scotland’s animal welfare charity, SPCA, said it was aware the sheep was trapped, but added there was plenty of food available. “There is sufficient grazing area in the area,” he said. “We will carry out further checks when the weather permits and when it is safe to do so.”
