To conclude a training camp in Zeeland, FC Volendam practiced against the Belgian team KAA Gent on Saturday afternoon. The practice match at the Alkmaarsche Boys complex ended in 2-1. A beautiful goal from Ezechiel Fiemawhle in the final phase was not enough.
Carel Eiting made his comeback in the base against Ghent. The captain of Volendam was missing in the goal-rich first exhibition match against SVZW (6-1 win) due to an injury. The first chance was for the orange shirts, Bilal Ould-Chikh laid the ball ready for Darius Johnson. The winger mishit the ball and did not score. The visitors from Ghent did, after two missed opportunities by Tsuyoshi Watanabe and Hugo Cuypers.
Cuypers scored the opening goal. Andrew Hjulsager doubled the lead just before the break: 2-0. Before that, Lequincio Zeefuik had the ball for the header, but the young striker failed. A brilliant volley from Eiting was also narrowly tapped over the target.

Mio Backhaus, who was again preferred under the crossbar by Matthias Kohler, made a beautiful save on a bow ball from Cuypers. He then stepped aside for Barry Lauwers. Via Calvin Twigt (free kick over) and Billy van Duijl (hands of the keeper), Volendam pressed a little more after the break. The Eel farmers however, got away well in the final phase, after Goodluck Igbokwe outplayed Lauwers and shot over. The luck was not over yet, as Matias Fernandez Pardo hit the post next to Lauwers.
Beautiful goal
The people of Volendam saved the highlight for last. Ezechiel Fiemawhle was sent deep, cut his man and curled the ball into the cross in a phenomenal way: 2-1. The tension in the match was therefore completely back in the final phase. Daryl van Mieghem, for example, still had the equalizer on his shoe. However, he shot into the hands of the goalkeeper, so that KAA Gent went back to Belgium with the win.
