Brighton extends with defender Jan Paul van Hecke

Set since November

Brighton & Hove Albion have extended the contract of central defender Jan Paul van Hecke until 2027. The 23-year-old Dutchman has been in Seagulls coach Roberto De Zerbi’s starting line-up in the Premier League since the beginning of November. In the Europa League he also started five out of six games.

“I am very happy about Paul’s new contract. He deserves it. “He’s developing into a great, great player,” the coach attested to his protégé. Brighton technical director David Weir described the 1.89 meter tall right-footed player as a “key player who shows consistent performances and can cope with the demands of the double workload. Not only is he a great player and person, but he trusted the plan we had in place for him when he arrived – and now we are all benefiting from it.”

Van Hecke moved to the island from NAC Breda in 2020 for a fee of two million euros. Since then he has played a total of 30 competitive games for Brighton, who have since loaned him out to Heerenveen and Blackburn. Its market value had increased by one million euros over the course of the year.
