NPO figures Marcel van Roosmalen and Gijs Groenteman have succumbed to John de Mol’s big money. From tonight they will shine for four weeks at the time of Today Inside with their own SBS 6 show Marcel & Gijs. Where VI often scored against or even over a million viewers, Marcel & Gijs’ expectations are much lower.

750 thousand

Television connoisseur Rob Goossens thinks that tonight’s first episode will in any case score, he says The BLVD Podcast. “I think the hype is so big that people are really curious what those two are going to do. But of course it is not Today Inside.”

How many viewers does Rob bet on? “I think they will score very well, but not as well as Today Inside. I think they have 750 thousand viewers.”

Or 850 thousand?

Co-host Bridget Maasland bets a little higher. “Yes, okay. Well, I’ll go over that, because I think a lot of people are indeed very curious or don’t even know that the gentlemen won’t be there, you know, so they actually bet on Today Inside, but then they get in a times Gijs and Marcel, and then stick around for a while.”

Bridget goes for 850 thousand viewers. Rob: “Well, we both have faith in it. 750 is also very high.”

She replied: “Yes, no, I think out of curiosity. Of course there has been a lot of fuss about it, also from the gentlemen of Today Inside, so that was also a nice gift of course. They handled that well. So I think it will score 850 thousand viewers.”

Drop bags

Rob and Bridget do think that the viewing figures of Marcel & Gijs will drop sharply after tonight, although it promises to be a spectacular broadcast with arch enemy Jan Slagter in the studio.

He asks her, “Are they going to hold it too?”

Bridget firmly: “No, I don’t think so.”

Rob: “I don’t think so either.”

Bridget: “Well, we’re going to see it.”

Merel and Sam

TV talents Merel Ek and Sam Hagens have not received a talk show because of Marcel & Gijs. Özcan Akyol was in favor of this: “I think Merel and Sam should do it. Then they can practice for a month. That’s nice, isn’t it warming up? I actually think it is a kind of contempt for your Talpa stars that you attract someone from BNNVARA.”

Media watcher Victor Vlam thinks that the arrival of Marcel and Gijs is a blessing in disguise is for the two talents. In his podcast De Communicado’s: “I honestly think it’s good for their career that that plan didn’t go through and that Gijs and Marcel can try, because there is indeed a risk of failure.”

Co-host Lars Duursma: “And Gijs Groenteman and Marcel van Roosmalen, they are already known. So even if this program doesn’t work, they can always blame SBS 6.”
