A curious moment in the RTL Boulevard podcast: presenter Bridget Maasland hints at a certain point that more revelations will follow about Jack van Gelder.
Jack van Gelder seems to be getting away reasonably well in the riot about the work culture at NOS Sport for the time being. Two incidents have been brought up through the newspaper – the bath incident and the whore incident – and he himself dismisses that as a bad joke and a one-time outburst of anger respectively. Now he’s just sitting at the table at HLF8 smiling again.
Bridget about Jack
The big question is: how long will Jack laugh? Bridget Maasland hints in the RTL Boulevard podcast that more will surface about the 72-year-old presenter.
Bridget first says that she watched with discomfort the HLF8 broadcast in which Jack made his comeback after a week’s absence. “Jack’s story…I don’t know. I understand that you shouldn’t stay out of there for too long, but I don’t know if this was the program where you should sit. I thought it was an uncomfortable broadcast.”
Hint at more dirt
Colleague Rob Goossens then chimes in: “I agree, but that is precisely why I thought it was smart. He wants to send the signal: it’s not all that big.”
Right at that moment, Bridget starts to feel her ear, which in body language means that an untruth is being told. Rob finishes his sentence: “He responded to it and then he started chatting about completely unimportant things again.”
Then Bridget decides to break in after all. She then says slowly but firmly: “Yes, but ‘it’s not that big’… Mark what I say: it’s not that big what came out.”
Discomfort in the studio
There is then a silence of two seconds, after which Rob and Luuk Ikink begin to stammer ‘yes, yes, yes’ in unison.
Rob then: “Yes, if there is more, this is of course a very dangerous game that he is playing.”
Then Bridget raises her eyebrows, smiles meaningfully and makes a horizontal, flat hand, which seems to indicate that there is indeed more to the matter.
Finally, Luuk: “Yes, that’s right, but in the meantime… Of course we don’t know when that research will be completed and then the question is of course: should you wait?”
