Bridget Maasland fires Marcel & Gijs: ‘They are very unsympathetic’

Bridget Maasland is absolutely not a fan of Marcel & Gijs, the summer replacement for Today Inside. She finds the presenters unsympathetic. “I do not feel like it.”

According to Bridget Maasland, Marcel van Roosmalen and Gijs Groenteman are not at all suitable to fill a talk show five days a week. “Don’t you feel like this… It’s an act that’s fun once a week, because then you can, huh, kill your darlingsthen you can actually put all the fun things in one episode…”, she says in the BLVD Podcast.

Bridget critical

You just don’t want their cynical view of the world on the screen all week, says Bridget. “Now you have to spread it out over the whole week, so there are not enough tools.”

Colleague Rob Goossens: “Nevertheless, their podcast is still going well after all these months.”

Bridget: “Yes, but a podcast is different from making television.”

Luuk Ikink: “Yes, they are also different. I think they look a bit nervous, while they go wild in that podcast.”

Sikeneur

According to Luuk, the podcast is more natural. “Particularly Marcel does a lot of typing there and then he gives a lengthy monologue, which is really nice, but he doesn’t do that on TV. So it’s really different character on TV and in the podcast. I think they just feel safer there than in that studio.”

Bridget skips. “I like the inconvenience once a week. It’s also a bit that unsympathetic, isn’t it. I don’t feel like watching anything all night either. Well, the last part of the evening, and then going to bed with a bit of a grouch. I then go to bed in that mood.”

Merel and Sam

Another option for the summer replacement of Today Inside was a program with Merel Ek and Sam Hagens, the program’s political analysts. That ultimately did not happen.

Merel and Sam were both open to it. She previously: “That would have been nice with Sam. I don’t know if I could have done it. That is very different from what I do now. Then I think you should do a screen test first, but I think it would be great fun, especially if you receive other guests that you can ask questions.”
