Central defender Brian Behrendt is leaving the relegation-threatened second division club Eintracht Braunschweig after three years and will now play for Halleschen FC, one class lower. Both clubs confirmed the transfer early on Monday morning; Behrendt’s contract with Lower Saxony would have expired in the summer.

“The signing of Brian Behrendt comes at an important time for us, especially given Sebastian Zieliecki’s injury. We are convinced that Brian can stabilize our defense with the quality he has proven over the years,” explained Halle’s sports director Thomas Sobotzik, who did not provide any information about the duration of the working paper.

The 32-year-old defender moved from Arminia Bielefeld to Eintracht in January 2021 and has since played 76 competitive games for the club. Braunschweig’s sports director Benjamin Kessel explained Behrendt’s move: “After an objective assessment of his sporting situation, we and Brian came to the conclusion that a change was needed in the upcoming second half of the season. We know Brian’s achievements and thank him for his great commitment to our Eintracht and wish him much success in his new challenge in Halle.”
