Breuninger closes the 2021 financial year in the black

The Stuttgart clothing retailer Breuninger returned to profitability in 2021. This emerges from an annual report by the parent company BSG Beteiligungs-GmbH, which was published in the Federal Gazette on Tuesday. The company declined to comment on the results when asked by FashionUnited. The specialist magazine Textilwirtschaft (TW) had previously reported on the figures.

After business had been significantly impacted by the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, Breuninger was able to grow strongly again in 2021. The turnover from the sale of goods rose by 20.4 percent to 861.9 million euros compared to the previous year. According to the current annual report, the revenues were also “significantly above the pre-crisis level of 2019”. Total group sales, which had only reached EUR 799.2 million in 2020, grew to around EUR 1.00 billion.

Thanks to the improvement in sales, the company was back in the black. The retail company E. Breuninger GmbH & Co. made a profit of 23.9 million euros after posting a loss of 25.9 million euros in 2020. The consolidated profit attributable to the shareholders was 12.0 million euros in 2021. A corresponding deficit of EUR 26.5 million was posted in the previous year.
