Brent Hinds is dead. The former mastodon guitarist and singer died on August 20, 2025 at the age of 51 in a motorcycle accident in Atlanta.
According to the police, the accident occurred at an intersection in Atlanta. Hinds was traveling with his Harley Davidson when a BMW SUV disregarded the right of way while turning and collided with the motorcycle. Brent Hinds suffered fatal injuries. Fulton County’s office’s office confirmed him as a driver of the machine. It is not yet known whether alcohol or drugs were involved.
Brent Hinds: Mastodon publish statement
Mastodon himself also confirmed the death message with a statement on Instagram:
“We are in a state of immeasurable grief and deep pain … last night Brent Hinds died as a result of a tragic accident. We are destroyed, shocked and still try to understand this loss – the loss of a creative force with which we have shared so many triumphs, milestones and the creation of music that has touched the hearts of countless people. Our thoughts are at Brent’s family and his friend Fans.
Separation of mastodon 2025
Hinds had founded Mastodon together with Troy Sanders, Brann Dailor and Bill Kelliher in 2000 and significantly shaped the band’s sound. In March 2025, Mastodon and Hinds announced their separation. While the band wished him “nothing but success and happiness”, Hind’s increasingly sharp criticism of his former bandmates.
Mastodon had published the following statement for separation:
“Friends and fans, after 25 monumental years together, Mastodon and Brent Hinds have mutually decided to go their separate ways. We are deeply proud of the music and history that we were allowed to share with each other, and very grateful for his future.
We are still inspired and full of anticipation to tackle this next section of Mastodon with you. All tour plans for 2025 remain – we look forward to seeing you on the go. ”
