As of: December 30, 2023 9:20 p.m

Thanks to a fantastic comeback, the Fischtown Pinguins Bremerhaven have continued their successful streak in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL). The Eisbären Berlin are heading into the new year as league leaders.

Bremerhaven won on Saturday (December 30, 2023) against the Grizzlies Wolfsburg 6:5 (1:2, 1:2, 3:1, 1:0) after extra time and celebrated their eighth win in a row. The match winner was double packer Colt Conrad.

The Canadian scored the decisive goal in extra time, after previously making it 4-4 (43′). It was a key scene on the way to the next success. It hadn’t looked like that for a long time. At the beginning the guests from Wolfsburg dominated the game and won 4-1, only then did the top team from Bremerhaven turn things up.

Eisbären Berlin secure top spot in the table

However, the Fischtown Pinguins are not leaders in the table, they are the Eisbären Berlin. Coach Serge Aubin’s team won 4-0 (0-0, 3-0, 1-0) at ERC Ingolstadt on Saturday evening and not only achieved their twelfth away win in a row, but also moved to the top of the table.

In the 100th DEL duel between the two clubs, Leo Pföderl, Ty Ronning, Zach Boychuk and Kai Wissmann scored the goals for the capital city team. Berlin Goalie Jonas Stettmer celebrated his first Shutout in this season.

Setback for the Kölner Haie

The Kölner Haie suffered a setback just two days after their celebrated derby victory against Düsseldorfer EG (3:1). Coach Uwe Krupp’s team lost 0-1 (0-0, 0-1, 0-0) to former champions Adler Mannheim and missed the chance to climb to third place, at least temporarily. Instead, the lead over Mannheim dwindled to just four points. Max Gildon (36th) scored the winning goal in a period of pressure from Cologne.

Defending champion Red Bull Munich also suffered a setback. Former national coach Toni Söderholm’s team lost 1:3 (0:0, 1:2, 0:1) in Düsseldorf and remains in fifth place. The Iserlohn Roosters celebrated another victory with a 4-0 (2-0, 1-0, 1-0) against the Löwen Frankfurt after seven defeats in a row, but remain at the bottom of the table.
