Breast cancer: the book by Paolo Veronesi

T.breast mood, a book to take stock. Victory over cancer on the side of women: research and treatments to fight breast cancer (pages 160, 15 euros) written by Paolo Veronesi and published by Sonzogno.

A book to learn about hope

Veronesi, president of the Umberto Veronesi Foundation and Director of the Surgical Breast Division of Ieo, addresses all aspects of the tumor which more frequently undermines women’s health – one third of all forms affecting the female population is breast cancer – claiming a precise intention at the bottom of every explanation and every new information: helping women to “learn hope”.

Breast cancer, the gestures of prevention

After having reviewed, therefore, both the gestures of prevention (fromself-examination of the breast, ai screening, at the lifestyle) and the various therapies and surgeries, the oncologist focuses on everything that helps to “remove the tumor from the head” of those who have gone through it and struggles to recover from the trauma of the disease.

Projecting towards tomorrow

The hope “that enlarges men instead of restricting them” (as the German philosopher Ernst Bloch said) is what unites doctors who fight to find new, more effective and “sweet” remedies, and who in the midst of the disease is projected towards tomorrow. Future that more and more often has the face of a child, conceived after the treatments, as Veronesi explains in the final part of the book.
