Giorgio Chiellini, the veteran team captain of Juventus, one of the Italian First Football League (Serie A) teams, stated that he will bid farewell to the black and white club at the end of the season.
Chiellini made a statement to the press after the Italian Cup final match, where Juventus, of which he was the captain, lost to Inter.
Speaking about his future, 37-year-old Chiellini said: “I’m sorry to leave with a season that we completed without a trophy 10 years later. I leave my place to the youth. I won’t be next year. I will play for the last time in our stadium with the Lazio game on Monday and say goodbye to our fans. Then the Fiorentina game will be my last game. Soon Juventus. Expressing that he gave a lot to Juventus, Chiellini noted that now a new energy is needed and it is the right time to leave.
Chiellini had previously announced that he would bid farewell to the Italian National Team. The experienced player will wear the “Sky blue” jersey for the last time in the special match between Italy and Argentina on June 1 at the Wembley Stadium in London, the capital of England.
The experienced player has won 9 Serie A championships, 5 Italian Cups and 5 Italian Super Cups with Juventus, where he has been playing since 2005.
Chiellini had also succeeded in winning the 2020 European Championship with the Italian National Team.
