Competing in the pole vault category at the World Athletics Championships hosted by the USA, national athlete Ersu Şaşma made his mark in the finals with a time of 5.75.
According to the statement made by the Turkish Athletics Federation, Ersu Şaşma, who made history as the first pole vault champion in the Mediterranean Games in the history of Turkish athletics this month, also managed to reach the finals of the ongoing World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
22-year-old Ersu Şaşma, who started the pole vault selection, which was held in two groups, at 5.30 for the first time, then passed 5.50. Then, the national athlete, who was also successful in his second jumps in 5.65 and 5.75, thus advanced to the final by being among the last 12 names.
The crescent-star athlete made history as the first Turkish athlete who managed to reach the finals in the World Athletics Championships, as well as in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games in pole vault.
Ersu Şaşma’s final fight will start at 03.25 am on Sunday night, July 24, the last day of the championship.
