Lto breakfast it is the most important meal of the day. But not only. It is also one of the moments that are most imprinted in one’s mind, ever since one was a child. In fact, smells, tastes, sensations and above all are associated with the early morning sounds. Which can also become relaxing precisely because they recall beautiful and pleasant moments. So much so that they have become ASMR sounds, as demonstrated by the Unione Italiana Food with the campaign I start well.
Breakfast and ASMR sounds: the modern cereal, the romantic croissant
The “scrunch” of cereals among the sounds of the modern breakfast, together with the “gluglu” of vegetable drinks poured into a glass and the sizzle of pancakes. The mocha is one of your most energetic and familiar, while the biscuit one is my nostalgic, perfect symbol of childhood.
This type of classification was drawn up by the Unione Italiana Ford which, through the Io comincio bene project, carried out a survey on the sounds of breakfast: «Numerous scientific evidence has ascertained that if it is true that eating some foods, such as chocolate, stimulates production of serotonin, the feel-good hormone, too listening to certain sounds, especially if related to food, can make you feel better. The credit must be attributed to the ASMR, Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response: the phenomenon, widely spread on YouTube, if linked to food it becomes a sensory experience of well-being and happiness, which has positive effects on physical and mental health. Starting with the sounds of breakfast» explain the experts of the Unione Italiana Food.
This is how the idea of a survey among the breakfast lovers to discover the most stimulating and relaxing sounds of breakfast.
The sounds of breakfast: the 5 most evocative
According to the survey conducted by the Unione Italiana Food, the most loved sounds associated with breakfast are five, each with a very specific sensation:
1. “Scrunch”, the nostalgic breakfast sound of childhood
It’s the most classic sound you get emits when you take a bite of the biscuit. It is no coincidence that it came to mind as the first suggestion of 64% of the interviewees. The sound of biting a biscuit after dipping it in milk is very often linked to breakfasts when you were a child. Then follows the “scrunch” of cerealsa louder sound than the previous one, which came to mind for 36% and is associated with adult breakfasts.
2. The coffee that comes up in the moka and its muttering
It is the “noisy” memory most loved by 83% of people: many associate it with the concept of energy, but also with home. «Theine and caffeine increase psychophysical performance, but if consumed in large quantities they stimulate diuresis and heart rate, because they are exciting. EFSA, European Food Safety Authorityindicated that the maximum amount of caffeine to be taken, in several fractions, per day is 400 milligrams (3-6 milligrams per kg of body weight), or about 4 cups of moka and 5 of espresso» commented prof. Michelangelo Giampietro, specialist in Food Science and Sports Medicineinvolved in the project by the Italian Food Union.
3. The delicate sound of chocolate cream on bread
It is a comforting but at the same time regenerating sound for 16% of respondents. As the expert explains, chocolate cream is one of the great classics of the Italian breakfast, ideal if consumed in the right quantity: «After all, chocolate was defined as the ‘food of the Gods’ because it gave pleasant sensations not only to the palate but also to brain functions. Furthermore, the spreadable cream, thanks to cocoa, also contains other substances with a stimulating action on our nervous system and this can help justify the pleasure of consuming it when we have to get out of bed and face a whole day’s commitments. It can, therefore, be considered a natural antidepressant in terms of pleasure satisfaction: the advice is to spread it, without exceeding in quantity, on toasted bread or rusks, which are more digestible than fresh bread».
4. The modern breakfast? Pass by the sounds of pouring vegetable drinks
It is the first sound that 46% of those interviewed associate with the idea of breakfast: «It is the emblem of the contemporary breakfast: pouring a vegetable drink into the glass is something very modern. This type of drink is an excellent alternative for those who want to vary their breakfast every morning. They are recommended for all those who do not want or cannot consume milk or its derivatives for animal rights, environmental reasons or for clinical reasons linked to allergies or intolerances.
«Plant-based drinks are highly nutritious and help to supply our body with the water lost during rest due to breathing. Soy drinks, being a leguminous plant, have a higher protein content than oats and rice which are cereals».
He is also very appreciative of the sound of syrup being poured over pancakes, chosen by 54% of people.
5. The broken croissant, the most romantic sound
Together with coffee, it is one of the most typical sounds of the Italian breakfast, so much so that it is chosen by 81% of people; the knife that cuts the cake is also very popular.
«In a food day made up of 5 classic meals, the total amount of energy should be divided as follows: 20% for breakfast, 10% for a mid-morning snack, 30% for lunch, 10% for a snack, 30% for dinner» he recalls the expert who continues «So make a a good breakfast in the morning helps you not arrive hungry at lunchtime. The energy to be taken at breakfast is slightly lower than that to be obtained from lunch and dinner, considered the main meals of the day. For this reason, greedy and carbohydrate-rich foods, such as a cake or a croissant, with a not excessive fat intake, are ideal to be eaten in the morning» concludes Professor Giampietro.
